Why have I developed this?
All the managers I have ever worked with were aspiring to be good managers. You want to do right by your people, keep your teams thriving, and feel secure that the decisions you make are not going to get you in trouble. Sometimes managing a team can bring moments where you wonder if you’re making the right call.
Being a manager can mean having to make really hard decisions and having difficult conversations. Who prepares you for that? It’s really common that people find themselves in a role where they suddenly have to manage other people, because they were good at their job. Suddenly, they’re doing a completely new role and they probably won’t get much training for the extra responsibility. Straight in the deep end, sink or swim. This can make people feel very exposed, because where they knew their job inside out before, they suddenly have gaps in their knowledge or experience.
If you don’t have a mentor, or HR team providing coaching and training for you, who do you turn to for help? You can read the books, listen to podcasts, try to copy other people you have worked with… but you may still have a lingering feeling of “is it the right thing?”
That is exactly why I’ve developed this new Confident People Management Series.
In the past I have run in-house line manager training and coaching with new managers, to ensure they knew how to approach different situations consistently and legally. Based on my own experience and working with small clients, I’m designing this training series to be a supportive, real-world safe space where you can develop your skills.
There’ll be no death by PowerPoint or theoretical models, just practical, down-to-earth learning so you feel grounded, capable, and confident to lead your team. The first 2 Modules are now open for booking, and more will come soon!
Who is the training suitable for?
The training is open to anyone with some involvement with managing people, aspiring to move in to management, or involved with coordinating or supporting HR.
Maybe you’re a small business owner, a line manager, or a person that gets pulled in to support with recruitment or investigations.
Whatever your background or experience level, everyone will be welcome, and there is no judgement. If you’re unsure whether it is right for you I’m happy to chat about your needs.
What is the content?
Module 1: The Essentials of Discipline, Grievance and Carrying out fair investigations.
When something unexpected happens with a team member, are you confident you know the right steps to take and how to follow your discipline and grievance procedures?
With the rising use of AI for writing grievances, and the reduced length of service requirements for Unfair dismissal claims, it’s more essential than ever that you understand these processes and are prepared to recognise and follow them.
This session will give you
- a clear understanding of the ACAS code and how this applies to issues of discipline or grievance.
- A better understanding of when things can and should be handled informally, and when they are “formal” what this actually involves.
- How to conduct a fair investigation
Conducting a fair investigation is where employers often make mistakes, so we will work through cases to ensure you will be able to approach any situation professionally, fairly, and without sleepless nights.
Module 2: How to hire right, first time. Effective recruitment & selection interviews
Reducing the risk of the wrong hire or a failed probation makes business sense, as it costs a lot of time and money to manage these situations.
This half day of skills based interactive training will increase your confidence, knowledge and skills to attract better candidates and to make more effective and informed selection decisions next time you hire.
In this session we cover:
- The legal pitfalls to avoid
- The rising use of AI by candidates and how to handle this
- How to reduce Unconscious Bias
- Conducting more effective interviews, techniques and different types of questions
Further modules are in the pipeline, including: how to manage your team’s performance day to day, managing absence and employee wellbeing.
What you will gain
During these interactive sessions we are not just talking about theory, you’ll learn techniques and skills you can use immediately. You will leave with:
- Increased knowledge and skills: Changing legislation and the use of AI by candidates are changing the employment landscape at pace, keep ahead
- The confidence that you know where to look for advice and guidance if a more complex challenge arises.
- Confidence that you’re more equipped to manage your team effectively, handle the daily dynamics, and lead with clarity when bigger issues come up.
- most importantly…A certificate to evidence that you attended
The finer details
Cost: Each half day module is £125 per person. Light lunch will be included.
Scheduled dates:
Module 1 – Wednesday 9th September 2026
Module 2 – Tuesday 6th October 2026
Both courses will run between 9.20 – 14.30 with a short break for lunch.
